Hockey is a passion throughout the region for all ages, providing options for the whole family whether you want to strap on the blades yourself or enjoy games from the stands. The Brockville Minor Hockey Association, South Grenville Minor Hockey Association, and Gananoque Minor Hockey are the major organizations serving youth hockey. They operate out of arenas spread throughout the region. Junior hockey is also well represented, courtesy of the Jr. A Brockville Braves, the Jr. B Brockville Tikis, and the Jr. C South Grenville Rangers and Gananoque Islanders.
Curling is another great way to entertain yourself during the winter months in your new home along the St. Lawrence River. The Brockville Country Club offers regular bonspiels and league play on its six sheets of ice, while the Prescott Curling Club hosts a similar schedule on its three sheets, and the Gananoque Curling Club has the same features with two home sheets of ice. All three clubs are very active and always welcoming new members.
Of course, if organized sports are not your thing, you can also enjoy the snowy season by cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, and snowmobiling. The Mac Johnson Wildlife Area in the north end of Brockville boasts 11 KM of trails, while the Triangle Ski Club to the north of the city is a hidden secret with 35 KM of trails for all skill levels of skiers and snowshoers. And sprawling Limerick Forest with its 180 KM of trails for snowmobiling, ATV riding, and more lies just a half-hour east of Brockville in Augusta Township. The Grenville County Snowmobile Club in this area is always accepting new members, so the option is there for you to embrace this exciting pastime as part of life in your new home.
